Thorne and Moorends Town Council see the town centre as the heart of the community and frankly, it's in despair. We are dedicated to bringing the town centre back to life, starting by addressing the dereliction and vacant shops, which are eating away at our heritage and our pride

We all know that Thorne Town Centre is plagued with dereliction. We all know that it is in an unacceptable and unattractive state. The Town Council is dedicated to breathing life back into local business, employment and development in the hope that we can see Thorne Town Centre as the busting heart of our community once more.
We KNOW the above photographs are unattractive and we are not, as a council or a community, proud of them. We want to improve them. We want to see more POSITIVE development in the area like below: Quality local development by local members of our community. We also want to bring through local talent, to develop new business and employment opportunities in our town:
We fully support the development of No1 and 2 Market Place and seek to attract once more a thriving and vibrant, regularly trading, market place.
The Town Council are currently in the process of taking control of the Town Centre's toilet facilities (on the green) by transferring assett rights from DMBC to the Town Council. Health and Safety works are a key priority and works have already been completed at the Cemetery and the Park. Disability access has been provided at the cemetery and tree works have been completed at the memorial park. Plans are currently in place for the Town Council to oversee improvement works to the walled garden (part of the memorial park) and a further asset transfer of the park toilet facilities from DMBC to the Town council. |
